When Doves (Don't) Cry: Prince's pet doves fell silent after his death
Prince's sister has revealed that the Purple One's pet doves fell silent following his death
Speaking to The Today Show Tyka Nelson said that pet doves - Majesty and Divinity - refused to sing following the icon's untimely passing in April.
Nelson was discussing the incredibly odd atmosphere at Prince's Paisley Park Estate since he died. Paisley Park is currently being prepared to be opened to the public as a museum.
“After he passed, they weren’t talking," said Nelson. "It didn’t feel the same... so when I first came in [to Paisley Park after Prince’s death], I was like, ‘Where’s the doves? What’s going on?’ [His staff] said, ‘They’re up there. They’re just not talking.’ I said, ‘Well you need to play some Prince music.’”
The doves contributed ambient singing to 2002 LP One Nite Alone.
