The Cure have been inspired to finish their first album in over a decade

After being revealed as inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for 2019, Robert Smith has expressed that The Cure will be finishing their first album in a decade.

Speaking to SiriusXM after being announced as inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Robert Smith of The Cure expressed that their experiences over the past year have inspired them to go and finish their first record since 2008's 4:13 Dream.

"Primarily because of the Meltdown thing [festival] and seeing all these new bands—I’ve listened to some of these bands and met so many of them that it’s kind of inspired me to do something new," says Smith.

He adds, "So, yes, we’re going in about six weeks time to finish off what will be our first album in more than a decade. It’s very exciting times for us all around.”

The Cure are also hugely popular among the global festival circuit, having been confirmed to play Mad Cool in Madrid, Rock Werchter, Øya, Roskilde, and NOS Alive, just to name a few. Find their full touring plans.

Robert Smith and co will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside Janet Jackson, Radiohead, Stevie Nicks, and more. The ceremony will be held at New York City's Barclays Centre on 29 March 2019, and will be streamed on HBO and SiriusXM.
