Flying Lotus interviews Kendrick Lamar, unleashes unreleased collab
As part of his BBC Radio 1 residency, Flying Lotus interviewed Kendrick Lamar last night. He then unveiled a never-before-heard collaboration called "Eyes Above", which is available to stream now.
It's a brief cut at only 68 seconds long, but it's bustling with Lamar's lightning flow and Lotus' chaotic jazz stabs.
The pair have collaborated before, notably on Lotus' recent You're Dead! LP, and they spoke at length about various topics, including the quality of Lamar's recent output. Speaking about the album, Lamar told those who had tuned in to follow their heart when it comes to creating: "I encourage you, the listener, to always put your heart over a number or a dollar sign, because your heart is going to lead you to the right places... I could have gone into any direction with this record. My heart told me to go with this direction. When the opportunity presents itself it’ll put you in a place you never imagine.”
Lamar's To Pimp A Butterfly is out now; it got 9/10 from us, and you can head here to find out why.
Stream "Eyes Above" below. Tune in here to check out the whole show (skip to the 1:37 mark for the Lamar interview).
