Chilly Gonzales is being sued over remarks that Hozier ripped off Feist
UPDATE: Looks like this has all been resolved. Hozier wrote on Facebook: "There has been some talk in the press of legal action and I'd like to clarify my position and the goings-on of the past week for fear that gossip runs unchecked, as it often does. What was sought from my end was an apology and redaction of an unfair inferral. This has been issued by Jason Beck (Chilly Gonzales), which I very much appreciate. I will continue to follow and respect his work and look forward to moving on from this issue. Jason Beck has been co-operative and understanding, and there are no hard feelings on my part.
Thank you. Andrew Hozier-Byrne"
The Sunday Times (via Entertainment.ie) is reporting that Andrew Hozier-Byrne (Hozier, duh), has filed a defamation suit against Chilly Gonzales in the Irish High Court.
Gonzales was hosting an episode of Pop Music Masterclass, where he chats about a wide variety of pop goings-on, when he drew links between Hozier's calling card "Take Me To Church" and Feist's "How Come You Never Go There". Well, he apparently did more than draw links, going as far as to call out Hozier for ripping off Feist.
True or not, Hozier's slapped Gonzales with a lawsuit for making public his thoughts. Hozier's manager Caroline Downey is quoted as saying the accusations were "groundless", and Gonzales has pulled the episode of Pop Music Masterclass.
