Billie Eilish announces her new song for the forthcoming Barbie soundtrack
Billie Eilish has shared the release date for her forthcoming song, "What Was I Made For?", which features on the soundtrack to Greta Gerwig's Barbie movie.
In a post on her socials, Eilish said: “We made this song for Barbie and it means the absolute worrrrllld to me. This movie is gonna change your lives and hopefully, this song will too. Get ready to sob.”
Eilish is the latest in a string of artists to unveil tracks for the forthcoming movie. "What Was I Made For?" is set to follow “Speed Drive” by Charlie XCX, Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice’s iconic “Barbie World”, artist and producer PinkPantheress’ track “Angel", global recording artist KAROL G’s high-energy anthem, “WATATI" (featuring Aldo Ranks)” and the lead single “Dance The Night” from GRAMMY Award-winning global superstar Dua Lipa, who also makes a special appearance in the film.
BARBIE: The Album will continue to feature massive new tracks from an unprecedented lineup of artists including Lizzo, Ava Max, Dominic Fike, Khalid, The Kid LAROI, Tame Impala, HAIM, GAYLE and FIFTY FIFTY feat. Kaliii. Barbie star Ryan Gosling also joins the robust roster of soundtrack artists with his iconic original song performed as his character, Ken.
The film has been banned in Vietnam because the it includes the “nine dash line map” that depicts islands in the South China Sea as being controlled by Beijing.
“We do not grant license for the American movie Barbie to release in Vietnam because it contains the offending image of the nine-dash line,” the state-run Tuoi Tre newspaper stated, citing Vi Kien Thanh, the director general of the Vietnam Cinema Department under the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.
Earlier this year, Eilish shared the Labrinth collaboration "Never Felt So Alone", from the Euphoria soundtrack and made her acting debut in Donald Glover’s Swarm.
